RULES for your stay
#1: Stay safe!
Make sure your visit is most enjoyable by following these key safety rules:
SUPERVISE AT ALL TIMES young children and older children who cannot swim. There is no lifeguard.
Wear sunscreen and reapply often. (Don’t forget ears and tops of feet!)
Never swim alone, especially at night.
Always use life jackets for any kind of boating, paddling, kayaking, etc.
Poison ivy is a thing. Be aware of your surroundings.
Keep bonfires contained and never leave them unattended.
Consider using plastic drink glasses when hanging out on the cement deck or beach areas. Bare feet and broken glass don’t mix well.
House Rules
We maintain a smoke-free & pet-free living space. If we detect (e.g. smell) evidence of smoking or pets, we will need to charge you an additional cleaning fee.
Please respect the following rules:
DO NOT sleep on the couch. There are plenty of beds and air mattresses/cots for sleeping.
DO NOT flush feminine products, paper towels, or wipes (even “flushable” wipes), as they clog toilets and will cause unwanted mayhem.
DO NOT take bath towels outside – beach towels are for the beach and bath towels are for the bathrooms.
DO NOT leave wet towels – beach or bath – laying around indoors to form mildew or ruin household surfaces. Hang beach towels to dry outside or on porch, or put them in the clothes drier after shaking out the sand (outside!).
DO NOT sit on indoor furniture with wet or damp clothing. Who does that, anyway?!
DO NOT place loose garbage in the garbage bin. Put all garbage in garbage bags.
DO NOT dispose of liquids in the garbage. Please drain all items (e.g. cans and bottles, food containers) before bagging or recycling. Garbage bags full of liquid attract pests and are nasty to clean up.
Beach rules
Beach life requires some extra awareness. Please review the safety rules above! They are very important for your visit. Also, please be respectful of the following:
Quiet hours are from 11pm – 8am. Don’t be that person/group of people.
Our beach is directly in front of our house. You are welcome to stroll the Lake Huron shoreline along the water, but do not linger, sit, or lay on the neighboring beaches.
Please rinse/wipe off feet prior to entering the house. There are two blue “foot wash” trays which you can fill with water and place on the sand next to the steps and by the porch door. Please empty and return the trays to the porch when you depart.
Keep bonfires contained and never leave them unattended. There is a firepit table on the cement patio. If you make a fire in the sand, cover the ashes with sand when you’re done.
Do not leave garbage on the beach. That’s just gross.
The “front” of the house faces the lake; the “back” of the house faces the road. This is not a debate.
Do not cry or scream if you see a bug or a spider. This is the beach. What did you expect?
Upon Departure
Bins for garbage (black) and recycling (blue) are outside the kitchen door, next to the shed:
- Garbage: Place bagged garbage only, please, in the garbage bin.
- Recyclables: Rinse and place all recyclables and returnable bottles/cans into the recycling bin. Extra points if you take them with you for home recycling!
- PLEASE: No liquid in the garbage bags or recycling bin. Drain all garbage and recyclables before discarding.
Close and lock all windows.
Close sliding doors on both sides of porch.
Turn off lights, fans, space heaters, oven, A/C, etc. (Leave on refrigerators and wifi.)
Secure all doors when you leave as follows:
- Porch: On the two screen doors, lock the latch bolts. On inner sliding glass doors, place the two wood rods securely in inner door tracks to prevent sliding open.
- Back (kitchen) door: Lock deadbolt with key on your way out. You should be able to do this just by pressing the ‘lock’ button on the deadbolt keypad. (Or use key to lock deadbolt.) In any event, return the key to the lock box on the side of the house if you used it. Thank you!
